Soft K Leather

"Soft K Leather" refers to kangaroo leather which is widely recognized in soccer as the best material for “feel” in being able to kick the soccer ball. We also think that the sale of kangaroo leather is banned in California, however it still seems to be available in sporting good stores.

Thus far we have seen references by Adidas and PUMA to both "ULT K Leather" and “Soft K Leather”.

ULT-K Leather is a calfskin leather treated to feel softer and therefore more like kangaroo leather. This treated calfskin leather still retains the durability of a typical calfskin leather. Kangaroo leather is slightly less durable, but as we stated before it gives more “feel” and possibly more comfort.

Cleats-Info is not for or against animal rights. However, we would like to report the facts as best as possible. Kangaroo Leather was banned in California due to animal rights reasons. There are debates both for and against and we recognize all the issues. We believe that the name "soft k leather" is used instead of "Kangaroo Leather" to soften the image of Kangaroo's getting killed for their skin.

Leathers are normally considered a "by-product" of the meat industry... although this is debatable as well.

Our last statement has to do with the whole "Vegan Shoe" idea. The "Vegan" idea which we believe is taken from the word "Vegetarian"... has to do with not using animal parts (hides, skin, etc...) in clothes, shoes, etc... Here the "Vegans" would prefer to use synthetic leather and synthetic materials versus natural leather. Our concern... Is the production of plastic oil consuming synthetic materials in factory settings preferable to the animal slaughter and subsequent chemical enhancing processes of natural leather?
