Ring Grip and Ringor Cleats

Ring Grip was patented in 1983 Frederick Ihlenburg as a new, circular, cleat pattern designed specifically to reduce bone bruising and awkward flex-points found in the “three spike and post” models of the day.

Ihlenburg spent countless hours speaking directly with athletes and went through numerous prototypes before settling on the circular design. His research uncovered common complaints of discomfort and even pain associated with the cleats of the day, The circular design both helped avoid injury while actually enhancing performance in the precise movements common for athletes in these particular sports.

The pattern forms the basis of the Ringor Softball Cleat Design still used today. Here is a picture...

Although, Ringor now only makes Ladies Softball Cleats, the impact of Ihlenburg's design can be seen in most baseball cleats made by all of the big manufacturers (example... Nike, Adidas, etc...).
