Pronation

The opposite of supination, pronation is a biomechanical condition where the foot causes strain or injury to the ankle and foot/leg tendons or muscles because of excessive "rolling in" of the foot from the ankle joint.

In fact, the normal gait requires a certain level of inward rotation, it becomes a medical condition when the rotation is extreme.

Such a condition is a lead cause of plantar fasciitis, ankle pain, shin pain and sometimes knee pain. The condition may also cause the arch to stretch leading to flat feet.

Podlink.com provides this do it yourself diagnostics to check for flat feet:

1. Do your arches lower more than friends or family when you stand?

2. Do your heels and ankles tend to role in when you stand?

3. Do your knees tend to turn in or want to face each other more than straight ahead when you stand or run?

4. Do your shoes wear abnormally more under the big toe or tend to lean in when getting old?
