Mizuno Baseball Cleats

Mizuno 9-Spike Pro KL G5

These Mizuno Baseball Cleats are *%&!*!? amazing! Mizuno continues to stink in the marketing campaigns and comes up with terrible names like Pro KL G5, but so far these are the absolute best pair of cleats we have evaluated. To read more... click here.

Mizuno 9-Spike Classic G5 Low

This is exactly the same cleat as the above Pro KL G5, EXCEPT the uppers are made from synthetic leather versus the Kangaroo Leather. In general we don't like synthetic leather so much and you can read more specifics by clicking here. However, on the plus side... synthetic leather is very durable (Kangaroo Leather is generally not)... and synthetic leather is lighter than both natural leather and Kangaroo Leather. With these cleats you will be 0.1 ounces lighter than the above Pro KL G5's.

Otherwise these mizuno baseball cleats have all the great features listed above for the Pro KL G5's (best possible midsole, great cleat pattern, etc...).

You can save 35 bucks buying these versus the Kangaroo Leather and basically get the same great cleats... and they should last longer than the Kangaroo Leather. However, if money is no object... we still recommend the Kangaroo Leather!

We found these cleats for $94.99 at www.HomerunMonkey.com.

Mizuno 9-Spike Classic G5 Mid

Same as the Mizuno 9-Spike Classic G5 Lows... only in a Mid-Cut Cleat. We can possibly make a very general statement that Infielders wear Mids and Outfielders wear Lows... although this is oversimplifying greatly. If you have had a history of ankle problems... you might consider going with the Mids... but basically you should go with what feels the best and most comfortable.

All above content about the G5 Lows applies to the G5 Mids as well. The Mids weigh 13.9 ounces so you will add an extra 0.4 ounces to your feet if you choose to wear these Mids versus the Lows. Overall, a great pair of cleats.

We found these at www.HomerunMonkey.com for $99.99.

Mizuno 9 Spike Classics Low G4

A great little cleat snippet: after Colorado Rockies first baseman, Todd Helton received a sponsorship deal with Mizuno - he continued wearing his Nike Clipper SCS - but blacked out the Nike Swoosh and had a Mizuno logo applied over the top.

Is that an example of brand loyalty or dis-loyalty? We’ll leave that answer up to the reader….

Funny, Mizuno baseball cleats didn’t seem to slow Rickey Henderson down on his race to a league record 1,406 stolen bases and Cooperstown! Based on what we have heard online, spike wearers are generally happy with 9 Spike Classic Low G4. The spikes are chosen by at least three college teams that we are aware of (Stanford, Georgia Tech and Clemson).

The shoes have full-grain leather tops for added "breathe-ability" and feature a Wave Midsole for added stability

Mizuno say the patented 9-spike configuration is both light-weight and specifically designed to aid in the three key functions of baseball play: running, batting and throwing.

The shoes weighs 12.3 ounces, according to Mizuno, though we have seen other sources quote weights of up to 14 ounces. They are retail priced at about $90. Although we have seen other online offers starting at about $30 so it is worth it to shop around.

We have found a couple reviewers stating that though they were happy with the shoe performance-wise, they say the spike isn’t as comfortable as they had hoped.

So, as you should always, be especially sure to try on these spikes in real store before buying online.
