Mid Cut Cleats Versus Low Cut Cleats
Mid is a term used to describe “mid-cut” referring to how high the shoe comes up to the ankle. Low is a term used to describe “low-cut”. Many basketball shoes are “High-Top” and completely cover the ankle for prevention against ankle twists. In baseball, there are normally two choices… Mid and Low. A “Mid” is therefore somewhere between a “High-Top” and a “Low”. The pictures below easily illustrate the difference between a Mid and a Low.
Here is a picture of a Low.

In comparing Youth Baseball Cleats we see about a 0.2 ounce weight difference between the Mid and the Low (with, of course, the Low being lighter).
It is obvious that if you have had a history of ankle injuries you will probably be more protected by wearing the Mids. We have also noticed that Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are both wearing Mids, while other players such as Johnny Damon are wearing Lows. You can read more about the Yankees’ Cleats by clicking
