The Metatarsus
Okay... so from the picture above you can see these metatarsal bones and this general area makes up what we call the metatarsus "area". As we have previously described within our website, the metatarsus "area" is very important in relation to our cleats discussion. When we are running, walking or jogging, we initially make contact with the ground with our heel and then as we move through the run / walk / jog motion, we transfer our weight to the metatarsus area. This metatarsus area is also commonly referred to as the
forefoot area.
These metatarsal bones are relatively susceptible to stress fractures often from repetitive motion stress. Below is a picture of a runner initially making contact with the ground with his heel... Then we show a picture of a runner as he is transferring his weight to the metatarsus.
