adiTuff and Adidas Cleats

adiTuff is made by Adidas and is used in most of the Adidas Cleats we cover here on Cleats-Info.

The technology is meant to be a shoe life extender and works by adding an additional piece of synthetic leather (in most cases, - sometimes natural leather) between the uppers and outsoles, near the front of the shoes.

In the toes, the synthetic leather is combined with a rubber element to act as a built in toe guard. We have noted that this set up is particularly beneficial for pitchers, who tend to wear down the toes on their cleats of their push off legs relatively quickly.

Some retailers claim that the rubber addition adds protection to the toes, and in football cleats, may help prevent turf toe. But we have yet to find any scientific sources claiming this and we highly doubt that adiTuff will prevent turf toe. Adidas does not advertise this attribute.

We understand what adiTuff is… but we don’t really consider it unique or necessarily better than any other abrasion resistant toe overlay.

adiTuff is an Adidas Trade Mark that is a nice way of describing an extra piece of synthetic material, placed basically over your toes. This helps protect the shoe from "toe drag". Baseball Pitchers typically drag their foot. Normally, a right handed pitcher will drag his right foot during the follow-through of the pitching motion. A left hander would therefore drag his left foot. So for baseball, some kind of “abrasion resistant toe overlay” is necessary. But we really don’t see any difference between adiTuff and any other Brand.

We have not found any negative or positive reviews of adiTuff in relation to Baseball Cleats, but we did find a negative review for adiTuff concerning a Tennis Shoe and this person felt the adiTuff provided minimal “toe drag guard”.

adiTuff (and any traditional abrasion resistant toe overlay) will also help prevent the separation of the outsole from the upper.
