Neoprene
Neoprene is a family of synthetic rubbers that are produced by polymerization of chloroprene. Invented in 1930 by scientists in DuPont's laboratories, is DuPont's trade name for polychloroprene. In general it has good chemical stability, and maintains flexibility over a wide temperature range and is used in a wide variety of applications, such as laptop sleeves, orthopedic braces (wrist, knee, etc.), electrical insulation, liquid and sheet applied elastomeric membranes or flashings, and car fan belts. A foamed polychloroprene, containing gas cells is used as an insulation material, most notably in wetsuits. Foamed polychloroprene is also used in other insulation and shock-protection (packing) applications. In line skating manufactureres use polychloroprene., citing that it adds reinforcement (ankle support) and guards against abrasions like few materials do. Ringor use polychloroprene in their shoe tongues. Credit: Wikipedia
