C4S Cleat Technology

C4S Cleat Technology is a a circular cleat pattern developed by Adidas which purportedly gives superior grip on the baseball/softball field. Obviously, the technology is used in many of Adidas' baseball and softball cleats.

The circular patterns are not new, having been invented by Ringor in the mid 1980s.

Adidas' pattern is of the 4 x 3 variety, which is biomechanically engineered to offer increased stability and manouverability while reducing slippage. Here is a picture...

The circular design not only provides enhanced acceleration, but also aids in the lateral movements required in the field and the step-to motions utilized when properly throwing the ball. The design is also favorable for the dig-in and push-off motions associated with hitting.

Adidas employs the C4S on some of their molded plastic cleats and some of their steel spike models.

Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies uses the C4S Cleat Pattern. Click here to view him in action with his Adidas Cleats.
